Elaine Martel
Partner | Senior Designer
An early interest in drawing plans, coupled with encouragement from a high-school drafting teacher, set Elaine on the path to interior design. She attained her Bachelor of Interior Design from the University of Manitoba, and upon graduation, moved out west to Vancouver Island. She joined Kimberly Williams Interiors in 2001 as a designer, completing her professional accreditation exam in 2006.
In 2018 Elaine became a partner and owner in what is now KWI Design. Her work has been featured in Architectural Digest and Conde Nast, and she is the recipient of 2021’s Best Hospitality Design award from the Victoria Real Estate Board (commercial buildings).
While she’s an extraordinarily talented space planner, Elaine is also an exquisite brand builder. She is responsible for some of Vancouver Island’s most notable hospitality spaces—spaces that mean so much to people, and that have become iconic in great part because of their design. Because of the way they make people feel. Her designs impart a “whole” vibe: a whole brand, a whole space, a whole experience.
A listener and contemplative problem-solver, Elaine thinks through every detail of a design and its end user, and is always pushing us to ensure we’re finding the best solution.
When she’s not in the studio, she can be found in the sunshine on her deck, sipping coffee and scrolling through Pinterest for ideas. She also loves hanging out with her boys (twins!) and hubby, and taking the dog for walks in the neighbourhood parks.
Adriana Wootton
Partner | Senior Designer
Originally hailing from Toronto, Adriana earned her Bachelor of Interior Design from Ryerson University, where she studied under some of Canada’s greats. A summer road trip to the West Coast captured her heart, and she knew she was home.
Adriana worked for a handful of local designers before forming the Interiors Division of a local construction firm specializing in high-end residential projects. After a decade there and seeking a new learning curve, she discovered her perfect fit at KWI Design. That was in 2014. She became a partner and owner in the practice in 2018. Her portfolio includes a broad mix of custom residential interiors, heritage restoration spaces and real estate development projects throughout the city. She was awarded Best Hospitality Design in 2022 by the Victoria Real Estate Board (commercial buildings).
Adriana takes a team approach to projects, and prioritizes developing long-lasting relationships among team members, trades and suppliers. A creative, critical thinker, and a technically capable problem-solver for our clients, her hallmark is upholding our high quality of customer service and dedication to each project.
When she’s not at work, Adriana can be found lost in a podcast, camping, or hanging around the home with her husband, dog and two young daughters. There’s always music in the background—and sometimes, even karaoke kitchen dance parties!
